Live Above the “Fold”

The top stories in print media are always printed “above the fold”. This is what customers see as they walk past the newspaper stands. Above the fold content determines whether or not someone will plunk down 5 quarters for the Sunday paper.

The same is true for your website. In terms of web design, above the fold refers to the part of your page that is visible to the reader without having to scroll down. What you put here determines if people stay or if they go.

Entice the readers with fancy graphics and well written copy above the fold and they are likely to stay. Greet them with gray background colors and boring articles and they will leave.
