In less than an hour you can dramatically change the performance of your site using existing content and a few easy updates.
Most site owners write articles for their site, publish them, and forget about them. They’re missing out a great opportunity to turn their most popular articles into traffic drivers to their site. In this post we show you how to avoid this mistake and how to revitalize your best content so it continues to perform long after its inception.
The first step is to take a look at your analytics program. Find your top content for the past two months, these are the pages that receive on average more than 40% of your site traffic.
Now that you’ve found these pages:
- Take a moment to review the content: Why do you think this subject is of interest to visitors? Can you update the article with new or more useful information on the topic?
- Re-read the article for grammar and spelling errors: Does it read smoothly, could you re-write the opening sentences?
- Edit title tags and meta tags: Can you improve the title? Are there tags more tightly focused to the subject of the article?
- Insert links to similar articles: Here’s an opportunity for link building. Run a quick Google search on your keywords and see if there are new links you can add to the article, then contact the webmaster of those sites and tell them that you’ve linked to them and ask if they will link back.
By editing and improving your top ten articles, you’ll dramatically improve the user experience for your visitors as well as bringing new visitors to your website.
