You want a domain name with a number…

That’s great, but domain names with numbers bring a number of problems:

  • When customers hear your domain name spoken, they’ll be unsure whether to type the number as three or type it in as 3.
  • You’ll be guaranteed to repeat this script at least ten times a day as long as your site exists, “Visit our website at 5GuysPizza.com….No, don’t spell out 5. Just type in the number 5.”

Best advice, stay away from domain names with numbers.

However, if you must have a number in your domain name (for example:  3amigos.com or 7deadlysins.com) there’s a seamless solution to avoid needless headaches:

  • Search the Google Keyword Tool to find which keyword variation (3 amigos or three amigos) receives the most searches in a month.
  • Choose the most popular search phrase for your domain. (threeamigos.com)
  • Set up a 301 redirect for 3amigos.com

Now, you can simply tell customers, “Visit us at threeamigos.com.” No need to worry if they type 3 or three. Either way they will land on your homepage.
